About Us

Since 1992 · Horanadu · Malenadu, Karnataka

Where the Mist
Becomes a Cup.

Three decades in the cloud-wrapped hills of Karnataka — coffee, spices, and everyday goodness, gathered slowly and sent to your kitchen the way the land first gave it.

A Quiet Promise from the Hills.

In the cloud-wrapped highlands of Karnataka — where morning mist drifts low over coffee leaves and the soil remembers every monsoon — our story begins. Malenadu Specials is a quiet promise: that the goodness of these hills should arrive on your table the way nature first poured it.

Traditionally crafted. Sourced directly from farmers who know the land by name. Every batch is hand-chosen and minimally processed — so nothing stands between you and the original character of the leaf, the bean, the root.

Raw. Honest. Exactly as nature intended.

Years of Heritage

Since 1992, we have spent three decades listening to one harvest — refining our sourcing season by season until only the most aromatic spices and finest-ripened beans earn a place at your table. A legacy built one careful batch at a time.

From the Hills of Malenadu to Your Home.

Built over decades with tradition, authenticity, and a commitment to natural flavours that never follow shortcuts.

Long before Malenadu Specials became a brand trusted across regions, it began as a simple journey in the lush hills of Malenadu in the early 1990s. Our family cultivated coffee and spices native to the Western Ghats, and around 1992 we began processing our own — slowly crafting blends that reflected the authentic taste of these hills. A small shop opened near the Annapoorneshwari Temple under the name "Malenadu Specials" — a name inspired by the unique produce of our region.

There were no signboards or polished branding in those early days. Our shop carried a simple handwritten banner painted on a dhoti cloth — modest, traditional, deeply personal. Customers noticed the difference immediately: natural, minimally processed, free from artificial colours, preservatives, and taste enhancers. Our masalas tasted the way homemade ones were always meant to — rich, balanced, and true.

Over three decades, we have refined every blend — Sambar, Rasam, Puliyogare, Garam Masala, coffee — through patience, customer feedback, and steady learning. As demand grew, we partnered with trusted local farmers who share our commitment to natural processing. After the pandemic, we launched malenaduspecials.com to bring the same authenticity directly to your home.

Today, Malenadu Specials reflects three decades of tradition, experience, and care. The packaging has evolved; our core promise has not — to deliver honest, natural, authentic flavours from Malenadu, without compromise.

Malenadu · Our Source

Not Factories. Hills.

We do not work with factories. We work with hills.

Every cup of coffee, every spoon of spice, every drop of honey we send comes directly from the mist-shrouded ranges of Horanadu and the surrounding folds of Malenadu. A meaningful share is grown on our own farm; the rest we draw from a small circle of trusted growers whose families have tended these slopes for generations.

Every batch is hand-selected, processed only as much as it must be, and sealed quickly — so the aroma, flavour, and integrity you open at home is the same one we sealed at source.

The best things in your kitchen should taste exactly like the place they came from. — Our founding belief, since 1992

Food, the Way It Should Be.

We don't believe food should be rushed, over-processed, or stripped of its soul.

Rooted in the Hills

Climate · Soil · Tradition

We grow and source from the mist-laced Malenadu region of Karnataka — where the climate is cool, the soil is generous, and centuries of tradition shape what grows. The character in every cup and pinch of spice begins here.

Pure & Unadulterated

No Colours · No Preservatives

No artificial colours. No preservatives. Nothing borrowed from a lab. Our spices are sun-dried, hand-picked, and only minimally processed — preserving the natural oils, the living aroma, and the time-honoured qualities that have made them prized for generations.

From Our Farmers to You

Fair · Direct · Sustaining

A meaningful share of what we sell, we grow ourselves at our farm in Horanadu. For the rest, we partner with smallholder farmers whose work we know personally — paying them fairly, so the people of these hills can keep tending them well.

The Hands Behind Every Bag

Hand-Picked. Heart-Held.

In Malenadu, coffee cherries don't ripen all at once. They blush slowly, one at a time, asking to be chosen with care. So every season, our growers walk the same rows again and again — selecting only the ripest red, leaving the rest to ripen another day.

It is patient, demanding work — the kind machines cannot replicate and shortcuts cannot honour. It is also the reason your morning cup carries the depth and sweetness it does. Behind every bag of Malenadu Specials is a pair of hands that knew exactly when to pick.

We pay our farmers fairly because we are not simply buying coffee or spices. We are buying their knowledge — knowledge that belongs to these hills and to the families who have lived on them for generations.
